DeArmanville United Methodist Men...

The Men's Club would like to thank everyone who made a donation for our Christmas families. Thanks to your generosity, we were about to help three families with toys, clothing, food and helped one family with a power bill.

Our next monthly fellowship will be on Sunday, February 12th at 7:30 a.m. at the Cracker Barrel in Oxford. I hope to see you there! Thanks. ~Ben.

Ladies Night Out...

The ladies will meet at Logan's in Oxford on Monday, February 13th at 6:00 p.m. Bring your girlfriend and come join us for a night of good fellowship together. (A movie was planned for this month, but I found out the movie we wanted to see is no longer playing at the theatre.)

Acolyte Training...

Acolytes serve an important part of our worship service. As of this year, I will be training our acolytes through various training sessions. I recently held a Wednesday night training session where we worked on proper form, dress, and procedure. We had very good participation from our youth. I would like to extend an open invitation for anyone interested in participating. If you would like to be an acolyte, please let me know. Thank you. ~Mendy Stephens

The PPRC is considering staffing the church nursery during Sunday morning services. This will probably be from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The position will be a paid position. The new church's safe children's program policy will be in place and each candidate for the position must agree to have a background check run by our consulting firm. If you know of someone that may be interested in this position, please contact the pastor or one of the PPRC committee members listed below.

Ash Wednesday and Lenten Focus - Deadly Sins and Greater Grace...

You are invited to observe a Holy Lent as we begin 40 days of prayer and fasting on Wednesday, February 22nd. We will gather in the sanctuary at 6:00 p.m. for a time to turn toward God in repentance. We will offer our sin over to God and receive the sign of ashes, remembering that only God's grace can redeem us. We will conclude the service outside as we bring our sin to God and place it in the fire so that God can completely purify us. The Lenten outdoor cross will be placed in the fire pit as a reminder of God's grace that frees us from sin.

During the Sundays of Lent, we will focus on the means of grace that God gives us to turn from sin and toward his great love.

I hope that you will make a special commitment to be present each Sunday in Lent as we worship together. Invite a friend, neighbor, or family member. Let's strive to build our worship attendance and small groups as we share the good news of God's grace! Invite! Invite! Invite!

New Creations

Mrs. Gertie Johnson is very gifted at sewing. She gave us a beautiful baby blanket with little girls portrayed in a different setting on each block. On one block the girl is going to church with a bible in her hand. In another block, she is wearing a different outfit, watering flowers. Each block has the same little girl wearing her bonnet in the same pose, but with a different dress and action. Our little girl will certainly be blessed with this gorgeous handmade work of art for years to come.

When I look at all the designs and colors of the fabric, I always wonder what purpose the cloth served previously. Maybe it was just cloth, or perhaps it was a handkerchief, dress, or a shirt. My mother-in-law has some old flour sacks that were once used to make clothing. Another talented sewer quilted Daniel a Christmas stocking from pieces of these sacks that have been in the family for several years. Regardless of what the cloth used to be, it it now something new and special.

What these talented sewers do with cloth is exactly what Jesus does with us. We come to Jesus with all our old selves...scarred by habits, fears, doubts, wayward actions, and selfish ways of thinking. We have no way of making anything new of ourselves. But Jesus does. When we give our lives over to him, He begins the process of transforming us to take on a different character. By his grace, we become new people, even though the form of the old is still present. "If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" (2 Corinthains 5:17).

In our daily journey as disciples, we are often reminded of the old. It is hard to get beyond the old as the memories and habits persist. We have to die daily to our old self, in order for the new self to live. Christ continues sewing and sewing, helping us to see that he is making something new of our lives, if we will just let go of the old and be willing to be made new.

Our baby girl has a new blanket...made just for her. Thanks to Gertie, the new blanket has come together from all the old pieces! We don't see the old anymore - we only see the new and beautiful masterpiece. Likewise, we have a new life...made just for us. Thanks to Jesus, we can wake each day as new creations. ~Brother Don.

Welcome to the World!

Our little girl, Bethany Angelina, was born yesterday at 4:02 p.m. She weighed in at 7 lbs. 11 oz. and is 20 inches in length. She has brown hair and a dimple. She's a beautiful, healthy little girl. Tangie is doing very well.

The big brothers are so happy to meet their baby sister!

Thank you all for your continued prayers and being such an important part of our lives. You are a blessing!
